Broadway Actor Christopher Tierney Injured in Spider-Man Performance

Tierney Falls 35 Feet Into Orchestra Pit

Actor Suffers Broken Ribs and Internal Bleeding

Broadway actor Christopher Tierney was injured on December 20 after falling a reported 35 feet into the orchestra pit during a preview performance of the musical "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark." Tierney, who was playing the role of Spider-Man, fell during a stunt sequence.

The New York Times reports that Tierney suffered broken ribs and internal bleeding as a result of the fall. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment and is currently in stable condition.

The incident has raised questions about the safety of the show's stunts. "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark" has been plagued by accidents and injuries since it began previews in November.

In June, a stuntman was injured during a performance when he was hit by a piece of falling scenery. And in August, a member of the audience was injured when a piece of metal from the set fell into the audience.

The show's producers have said that they are committed to making the show safe for both the performers and the audience. They have hired a new safety consultant and have made changes to the show's stunts.
